Manny Pacquiao won’t leave Bob Arum for Floyd Mayweather fight

pacquiao-arumOne of the biggest impediments for a Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight is promoter Bob Arum. Not only did Arum come up with every excuse possible to block such a fight from happening when the fight was most in demand, but Mayweather despises Arum and refuses to do business with him. Mayweather even told Fight Hype recently that he will not do business with Arum.

Though he really wants a fight with Floyd and the money that comes with it, Pacquiao says he will not leave Arum’s Top Rank Promotions to increase the chances of him getting a fight with Floyd.

“Floyd Mayweather Jr. never runs out of excuses just to avoid fighting me. If I leave Top Rank, there’s no guarantee the fight would push through,” Pacquiao said in an interview with the Inquirer.

“So, why should I leave Top Rank? Just to make Pacquiao-Mayweather fight happen? No way.”

Pacquiao also said the promotional group you’re with shouldn’t prevent a fight from happening and that there shouldn’t be any “lame excuses” to block things.

A few years ago, Mayweather asked Pacquiao if he wanted to leave Top Rank to join Floyd’s “The Money Team” promotion. Pacquiao declined.

In recent weeks, Mayweather has mocked Pacquiao for his knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez and for his tax problems. Clearly Pacquiao has not been impressed with Floyd’s behavior.

“When Floyd Mayweather was jailed for domestic violence, I prayed for him. Did you ever hear me say anything bad against him? I did not insult him while he was down and inside the prison cell. Instead, I prayed to God to change his heart,” Pacquiao said to the Inquirer.

He makes a good point, and that is the big difference between the two. Pacquiao is humble and has a big heart. His charitable ways have even threatened to ruin his fortune. Contrarily, likes to mock opponents and show off his wealth. The two couldn’t be more different, which is another reason the potential fight between them was so enticing.
