A clear leader is emerging as the Cal Golden Bears close in on hiring a new basketball coach.
According to Jeff Borzello of ESPN, former Nevada and Georgia coach Mark Fox is in negotiations to become the next coach at Cal, replacing the fired Wyking Jones.
It is unclear how far along negotiations are, but Fox looks to be the clear front-runner for the role at this point, as was first reported on Thursday.
Fox has been to five NCAA Tournaments as a head coach, though his greatest successes came over a decade ago at Nevada. He went 163-133 at Georgia, but failed to win a tournament game in two trips with the school.
Fox would appear to be a second choice, as a more prominent name was floated before the school ultimately went in another direction.
