Arizona surprised in more than one way on Friday. Not only did they pull off a shocking 56-35 win over rival Arizona State, but their typical no-huddle offense saw a change.
Arizona’s offense actually huddled during the game, and quarterback Brandon Dawkins says that was to combat the “cheating” Sun Devils, who steal signals.
“ASU be cheating,” Dawkins said after the game, via the Arizona Daily Star’s Michael Lev. “They know our signals. Sometimes they’ll call out some of our calls – the defense will be calling out our plays. We had to switch it up a little bit. We had wrist bands just in case. ASU always has tricks up their sleeve, but we had tricks up our sleeve.”

Those tricks including ramming the ball down ASU’s throats. The Wildcats rushed 48 times for a whopping 512 yards and 7 touchdowns. Dawkins carried 12 times for a team-high 184 yards, while two of his teammates also rushed for over 100 yards. Dawkins only attempted eight passes, throwing for 77 yards and a score.
Arizona State has been accused in the past of stealing signs by this man, and head coach Todd Graham has admitted to doing so, while noting that the practice is not illegal.
