Dabo Swinney shares thoughts on whether Clemson is a dynasty
After they defeated what appeared to be one of the best teams in college football history to win their second national title in three years on Monday night, Clemson is officially the powerhouse everyone thought Nick Saban’s team would be. But if you want to call the Tigers a dynasty, their head coach isn’t going to agree with you.
At least not yet.
While speaking with the media a day after his team’s stunning 44-16 win over Alabama, Dabo Swinney said Clemson is a “long way from a dynasty.” He did, however, talk about how proud he is of the consistency the Tigers have shown.

Alabama seems to get all the headlines, and there was a good reason for that for a large portion of the season. Clemson had an uncertain quarterback situation and struggled in a few games early on, while the Crimson Tide were demolishing opponents at a record pace. The end result was Clemson beating Bama in the national title game once again, which is something they fell five points short of doing a third time back in 2015.
The idea of a “dynasty” is obviously subjective. Even if Clemson isn’t considered one now, they have a great shot to win at least another championship with quarterback Trevor Lawrence around for at least two more seasons. As for Alabama, at least one coach thinks Monday night was the start of them going in another direction.
