Ed Orgeron won’t be returning to USC anytime soon.
Orgeron formerly served as Trojans defensive line coach and interim head man, and he was rumored to be a candidate for a possible return to the former role. However, after a cordial phone call with USC coach Clay Helton, Orgeron elected to remain in his current position as defensive line coach at LSU, sources told Scott Wolf of the Los Angeles Daily News.
Orgeron reportedly remains unhappy that he was dismissed in favor of Steve Sarkisian after leading USC to a 6-2 record as their interim coach two years ago.
It’s tough to blame Orgeron for being annoyed at that, especially given how Sarkisian’s tenure went. At the time of Sarkisian’s hiring, Orgeron was reportedly “outraged,” and it appears that he’s still not over how he was treated by athletic director Pat Haden.
