Georgia QB Justin Fields was frustrated with his role during season

Georgia quarterback Justin Fields has not been given many opportunities to contribute behind Jake Fromm this season, and apparently that is something that has been frustrating for the freshman.

ESPN’s Mark Schlabach reported on Monday that Fields is exploring the possibility of transferring after the season. The former five-star recruit would have to sit out the entire 2019 season unless he could obtain a hardship waiver, so he may end up remaining at Georgia. Fields and his father have reportedly had multiple meetings with Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart in recent weeks to discuss the QB’s future, but he has not formally requested a transfer.

A video that was shared on Monday by Zach Klein of WSB in Atlanta shows Fields seemingly complaining about his role following Georgia’s win over South Carolina earlier this season. Fields attempted one pass in the blowout win and completed it for eight yards. Beware that the video contains some inappropriate language.

Fromm is only a sophomore, so he has another year at Georgia. He finished out the regular season strong and nearly led the Bulldogs to an upset win over Alabama by completing 25-of-39 passes for 301 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. His job is not going to be in jeopardy heading into the spring.

While it seemed like there might be a quarterback controversy brewing in Georgia earlier this season, Fromm has been one of the best QBs in the country. That’s why it was so surprising that Fields, considered by many to be the top player at his position in last year’s recruiting class, chose Georgia. The decision appears to have backfired.
