Kirby Smart seems to come from Nick Saban’s school of not being satisfied.
Smart Georgia Bulldogs improved to 6-0 with a 41-13 win over Vanderbilt on Saturday. The Bulldogs racked up 560 yards on offense, but that wasn’t Smart’s focal point after the game. Instead, he was upset about the 13 penalties the Bulldogs committed for 115 yards.
“We played sloppy and I was disappointed with the way we played,” Smart said after the game, via Dawg Nation’s Chip Towers.
Smart continued to gripe about his team doing things to beat themselves, according to Dawg Nation.
“It’s like a constant war with ourselves to overcome things,” Smart said. “Good football teams don’t beat themselves. We were obviously doing all we could to beat ourselves tonight.”
A coach of a strong football team focusing on the errors and issues after a blowout win is very much a Saban trait. Perhaps it’s no surprise that Smart coached under Saban for several years across multiple stops.
Georgia fans probably love the high standard Smart is setting with his program. Or maybe they’re concerned because they know they won’t be able to get away with such sloppy play over the remainder of the schedule, which includes games at LSU and Kentucky, and home against Florida and Auburn.
