Urban Meyer wouldn’t say ‘Michigan’ on David Letterman (Video)
The second Urban Meyer was hired as the head coach at Ohio State, he fully embraced the rivalry the Buckeyes have with Michigan. Meyer’s team beat the Wolverines — who finished just 5-7 — with relative ease this season, but that doesn’t mean he is letting his guard down.
During an appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman” Thursday night, Meyer was discussing how Cardale Jones came to be the team’s starting quarterback. He mentioned how JT Barrett suffered an injury against “the team up north.”
“Braxton Miller was a Heisman candidate and hurt his shoulder,” Meyer said. “JT Barrett took over, became a Heisman finalist and broke his ankle against the team up north.”
Letterman asked for clarification of which team Meyer was referring to.
“That’s our rival,” he said. “You can’t say the word.”
Meyer made it clear during one of his first radio interviews after he joined the Buckeyes that he would not be referring to Michigan by name. Consdiering what he has done for the Ohio State program over the past few years, Meyer is entitled to do and say — or not say — whatever he wants.
