Early last month, Victor Espinoza capped off a historic run by riding American Pharoah to victory in the Belmont Stakes to capture horse racing’s Triple Crown. On Wednesday, Espinoza was on the back of ESPYs host Joel McHale for a different kind of ride.
Prior to heading onto the stage, McHale walked by Espinoza, who told him to hurry. McHale responded, “Sorry Victor, this is as fast as I can walk.” The 43-year-old jockey then hopped on McHale’s back and rode him onto the stage. He was introduced to the crowd upon arriving.
To no one’s surprise, Espinoza won the award for Best Jockey. American Pharoah, on the other hand, lost out to LeBron James in the Best Championship Performance category.
