Bill Belichick does not appear to favor shorter preseason

Many believe that the NFL preseason is too long as it is, but New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is not one of them.

Belichick warned that shortening the preseason would have consequences, including depriving younger players of opportunities to impress that they wouldn’t otherwise have.

There is, of course, some disagreement on what scrapping preseason games would mean. On one hand, star players and many key starters hardly play in the first place, but it could simply be a way to expand the regular season. That’s a controversial proposal in itself.

Ultimately, there’s little clarity on the topic, but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of momentum for change. Given the amount of major injuries that can happen in these games, though, some people are going to see things differently.
