Add the New York Jets to the list of teams that have interest in free agent quarterback Brian Hoyer.
Pro Football Talk is reporting that Hoyer is scheduled to visit with the Jets on Tuesday. Hoyer, who was released by the Houston Texans over the weekend, drew interest from the Jets when he was a free agent last offseason, but they ended up trading for Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick and the Jets have yet to make significant progress toward reaching a new deal. Since their best option is currently Geno Smith, the Jets could be interested in Hoyer as a starter, veteran backup, or bargaining chip in contract talks with Fitzpatrick. A report recently indicated that the two sides are unlikely to get anything done before the draft.
New York is also said to be eyeing trade possibilities as they remain in a stalemate with Fitzpatrick. While Fitzpatrick is reportedly seeking starter money and the Jets have only offered to pay him like a backup, its clear no other teams have offered the 33-year-old veteran anything worthwhile.
