Bucs GM asked if team has interest in Baker Mayfield

Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht offered up an intriguing answer regarding the team’s interest in veteran quarterbacks, specifically Baker Mayfield.

Licht was asked by Adam Schein of SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio whether the Buccaneers might have interest in the likes of Mayfield as a veteran backup to Tom Brady, and the response was certainly not a denial.

“We might still add someone,” Licht said. “I don’t want to talk about a player that’s on another team’s roster right now, but we still may add a veteran quarterback. We’re just going to have to see how it goes here.”

Licht did mention 2021 draft pick Kyle Trask as an option, but he ultimately seemed fairly interested in adding a quarterback. Whether that is a veteran backup similar to Blaine Gabbert, the team’s previous second-string option, or a bigger name remains to be seen.

This may also intrigue those who consistently hint at Brady wanting to play for another team. The Buccaneers are clearly keeping all their options open, but that one seems highly unlikely.
