For a team perched atop the NFC East with a 7-1 record, the Dallas Cowboys just can’t quit the drama.
A source close to the team told ESPN’s Ed Werder that, while there is no concern over how quarterback Dak Prescott is handling Tony Romo’s impending return, the same cannot be said for the rest of the locker room.
“He’s very unaffected,” the source told Werder of Prescott’s feelings. “How the rest of the team responds to all that, that’s my greatest concern. I’m not worried about Dak at all. Now the rest of the team, that is a concern.”
The team’s success means there is some trepidation about reintroducing Romo, particularly as chemistry is said to be strong with Prescott at the helm.
“It’s a close-knit group, and a lot of that is coming from the quarterback position,” the source added. “Do you mess with that? I don’t know. There’s a concern there.”
The good news for Dallas is that Romo is a good soldier who doesn’t appear interested in rocking the boat and is willing to stay on the bench for now. It’s a good problem to have, to be perfectly clear, though at the same time it’s likely a distraction Dallas will wish they could have avoided while the team is playing so well.
