Dak Prescott reportedly pushing to avoid 1 outcome with injury
Dak Prescott is likely to be placed on injured reserve in the coming days, but questions remain about whether the Dallas Cowboys quarterback will be able to play again this season.
Prescott suffered a partially torn hamstring during the Cowboys’ 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons last week. A report on Saturday claimed Prescott is trending toward having season-ending surgery, but he is planning to meet with more specialists.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Prescott is “determined to exhaust all options” before having surgery on his hamstring. People who are familiar with the injury believe surgery is the most likely outcome, however.
The Cowboys are 3-5 and were already fading from playoff contention before Prescott went down. It is possible Prescott will wait to see how things go over the next few weeks before making a final decision. If he does undergo surgery, the expected recovery timeline is four months. That means Prescott could, in theory, wait a while to have the procedure and still be ready to go for 2025.
Prescott has thrown for 1,978 yards, 11 touchdowns and 8 interceptions this season. Cooper Rush is expected to take over as the Cowboys’ starting quarterback, though Jerry Jones might be pushing for another player to be involved as well.
