Dennis Allen to Saints as defensive coordinator buzz building

Dennis Allen Raiders

Dennis Allen has been out of coaching since being fired by the Oakland Raiders following an 0-4 start to the season. Though he was terrible as a head coach going 8-28 over two-plus seasons, Allen should attract interest as a lesser coach.

Prior to taking the job with Oakland, Allen was the Broncos’ defensive coordinator. Before that, he was a position coach for the Saints defense from 2006-2010.

Allen’s relationship with the Saints coupled with the likelihood that New Orleans will be in the market for a new DC has led to speculation and buzz that Allen could be the team’s next defensive coordinator.

Saints columnists Jeff Duncan and Larry Holder both mentioned the scenario over Twitter.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport says Allen is eyeing a position as defensive coordinator in the right situation and also mentioned Allen’s relationship with Payton.

Allen’s Broncos were 24th in the NFL in 2011 with 24.4 points allowed per game.
