Eddie Lacy on being scratched in Week 2: ‘You don’t like what happened’
Eddie Lacy was surprisingly a healthy scratch from the Seattle Seahawks’ game against the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday, which may have signaled that he is on the verge of being released. Head coach Pete Carroll insists he is still in the team’s plans, however, and Lacy is trying not to think too far into the future.
After practice on Wednesday, Lacy said he is focused only on what he can control.
“There’s no positive way to take (being benched), but I was the most positive I could be,” he said, per Brady Henderson of ESPN.com. “It was my first time that happened to me or whatever, so I really don’t know what think of it, just do what I can do.
“You don’t like what happened or whatever, but at the end of the day, you can just control what you can control, continue to go out and practice and see how it goes.”
Seahawks fans were optimistic about having Lacy on board after the running back met all of his weight goals during the offseason, but rookie Chris Carson has been the team’s primary back through the first two games. Thomas Rawls also returned last week after missing Week 1 with an injury.
Lacy had just three yards on five carries in Week 1. Seattle’s offensive line has been a disaster, so the poor showing wasn’t entirely his fault. According to Pete Carroll, the decision to make Lacy inactive against the Niners was strictly based on the matchup.
“He’s doing fine. He’s ready to get after it and compete and battle back,” Carroll said. “He respects Thomas Rawls. He understands. That’s not what he wants. I don’t want him to accept it, I want him to be wanting to get back out there with everything he’s got, and that’s exactly the way he should be competing. I wish we could have had him up. We could have used him.”
The Seahawks may hang onto Lacy because of Rawls’ injury history, but it’s hard to envision him having much of a role going forward.
