The Baltimore Ravens have cut one of their top defensive players from last season.
The Ravens cut safety Eric Weddle, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. The move saves $7.5 million in salary cap space.
Eric Weddle was due a $6.5 million base salary plus $1M in incentives in 2019. Cutting him clears $7.5M in salary cap space, at a time the #Ravens are trying to re-sign C.J. Mosley … and now Weddle joins that deep free-agent safety class at age 34.

Weddle has a dead cap value of $1.75 million, according to Spotrac.
The 34-year-old safety had spent three seasons with the Ravens following a lengthy career with the Chargers. He had 68 tackles and a sack last season and was entering the final season of a four-year, $26 million deal signed before the 2016 season. The move should give the Ravens the flexibility to pursue a long-term deal for CJ Mosley, who was not franchise-tagged by the team.
