Injuries force Eagles to practice with receivers at cornerback
The Philadelphia Eagles’ secondary situation may be getting a bit out of hand.
Tim McManus of ESPN reported on Friday that widespread injuries to the team’s cornerbacks forced Eagles head coach Doug Peterson to use receivers to play the position at practice this week. McManus notes that Philly could be without their top five corners (Ronald Darby, Jalen Mills, Sidney Jones, Rasul Douglas, and Avonte Maddox) against the New York Giants on Sunday.
The defending champions are currently 4-6, and the next few weeks will obviously be crucial with three straight games against divisional opponents. That makes the timing of the injury bug even worse, as other Eagles players at impact positions have also recently been felled (namely, linebacker Jordan Hicks and running back Darren Sproles) in addition to all their cornerbacks.
All the health issues forced the team to explore another desperation move earlier this season, and it’s almost as if having enough bodies on the field is a victory for them at this point.
