Report: Jaguars likely not interested in Eli Manning trade

Eli Manning

The New York Giants have already made a couple of significant trades in advance of next week’s deadline, and there has been talk about them potentially moving on from Eli Manning as well. However, that would require another team having interest in the 37-year-old quarterback.

One team that seems to keep coming up with Manning trade rumors is the Jacksonville Jaguars, as they have one of the better defenses in football but have been plagued by poor quarterback play from Blake Bortles. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the Jags don’t think Manning would solve their issues.

“From what I can tell, they believe that on their roster are better quarterback options than anything that’s out there,” Rapoport said. “That includes Eli Manning and Tyrod Taylor, as well.”

Former Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, who won two Super Bowls with Manning as his quarterback, is currently in charge of the football operations department in Jacksonville. While he is said to have a good relationship with Manning, that does not mean he’s any more impressed with what Eli has done this season than anyone else.

As Rapoport mentioned, Manning also has a full no-trade clause in his contract. He’d have to sign off on any potential trade, which creates yet another obstacle. Despite how some of his teammates reportedly feel about him, it seems likely that Manning will be in New York for at least the remainder of 2018.
