Jamal Adams stayed home after being made inactive by Seahawks
Jamal Adams was nowhere to be found during the Seattle Seahawks’ game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night, and we now know why.
During his Tuesday appearance on KIRO-AM in Seattle, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll spoke about the decision to make Adams a healthy scratch for “Monday Night Football.” Carroll indicated that he was not certain where Adams was but believes the veteran stayed home after being made inactive.
“I think he was home,” Carroll said, via Gregg Bell of The News Tribune. “It was hard on him. We talked about it, and how he was going to deal with it. And he didn’t need to be there.”
Adams was not spotted at Lumen Field prior to Seattle’s upset win, so it is unclear if he stayed home or left the stadium after being told he would not be active. Inactives are announced 90 minutes before kickoff.
Julian Love played every defensive snap at safety for the Seahawks alongside Quandre Diggs. Love intercepted two Jalen Hurts passes in the fourth quarter, including one to seal a 20-17 win after backup quarterback Drew Lock hit Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a go-ahead touchdown with seconds left.
Adams missed almost the entire 2022 season because of a torn quadriceps. He has not been the same player since and has dealt with chronic knee pain, which Carroll said has been “so difficult on (Adams).”
The Seahawks traded a first-round draft pick and then some when they acquired Adams in a trade with the New York Jets in 2020. Adams signed a $70 million extension with Seattle the following offseason. Given how the team played without him on Monday, it is possible Adams has played his last snap with the Seahawks.
Carroll also benched Pro Bowl cornerback Riq Woolen to start Monday’s game. The big changes came a week after Carroll called out Woolen and Adams for some of their poor play in Week 14.
