Josh Norman says he is in no hurry to sign his franchise tender with the Carolina Panthers and that he is willing to wait.
The Panthers placed a franchise tag on Norman and hold his rights for the upcoming season. If he signs it, the value would be for nearly $14 million. However, Norman hopes he and the team will be able to reach agreement on a large contract extension. They have until July 15 for that.
“I’m comfortable where I’m at. Trust and believe,” Norman told the Charlotte Observer. “If I’ve waited this long I can wait on them some more. I got no problem waiting. Waiting got me where I need to be at the end of the day.
“Trust me: waiting is my specialty.”
Norman also told the Observer that he won’t give the Panthers a hometown discount just because he’s from the area and was drafted by the team. He also says he won’t do a holdout, either.
Norman has emerged as one of the best cornerbacks in the league. The Panthers would be wise to keep him on the roster for the foreseeable future, but it will come at a price. Norman reportedly wants $14-$15 million per season on a long-term deal.
