Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Matt Canada had a somewhat strange reaction to the team’s biggest play of the day in Sunday’s win over the Baltimore Ravens, and there is one popular theory about his lack of enthusiasm.
The Steelers were trailing 10-8 late in the fourth quarter when Kenny Pickett hit George Pickens down the right sideline for a 41-yard touchdown. Pittsburgh took a 14-10 lead with 1:17 remaining following a failed 2-point conversion attempt. They went on to win 17-10.
After the big play, CBS showed a clip of the Steelers’ coaching box. Everyone looked thrilled about the touchdown except Canada, who barely reacted at all.

In fairness, the video cut off quickly. Some wondered if Canada may have just been waiting to make sure there was no flag on the field.
The juicier theory is that Canada may have been pouting because the play was not one he called. Pickett appeared to call an audible at the line of scrimmage, though is is possible the quarterback was just changing the protection.

Pickett’s touchdown pass to Pickens erased the stench of what was another uninspiring offensive performance from the Steelers. Canada has faced criticism all season, with some fans even chanting for him to be fired. If Pittsburgh’s best offensive play of the season was not one Canada called, it is not too crazy to think he may have felt a bit uncomfortable about it.
