Vick to Start for Eagles
A few days ago we pondered if Michael Vick could cash in on his time filling in for the injured Kevin Kolb and pique the interest of a few teams in the NFL. With the Eagles seemingly committed to Kevin Kolb from a contractual standpoint, we weren’t really taking them into consideration. Maybe we should have.
Initial indications after Philadelphia’s win on Sunday were that Kolb had been cleared to play and would assume his role as the Eagles’ starting quarterback. As anticipated, Vick put together a tremendous game against the Lions. He threw for 284 yards and two touchdowns and, more importantly, didn’t turn the ball over. It looked as though Andy Reid was prepared to give him a pat on the back and send him back to the bench.
Turns out the opposite is true. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk is reporting that the Eagles have sent out a text message which reads, “Andy Reid names Michael Vick as team’s starting quarterback. Reid will available on conference call with the media at 6:30…” As Florio notes, the message does not indicate that Kevin Kolb has had some sort of setback.
For now, it would appear that something has gone right in the life of Michael Vick. He’s been given a chance to move on from public apologies and bad publicity to rescuing his career as an NFL starter. Of course, a couple bad games could change everything quite rapidly, as we have all learned.
