The NFL is planning to move forward with the 2020 schedule as it was released on Thursday, but they have some built-in contingency plans in case the coronavirus pandemic interferes with matters
As ESPN’s Adam Schefter pointed out, the NFL has made a few moves to make it easier in case things have to shift.
Some of those moves include:
– All teams have the same bye week as their Week 2 opponent, which would make it easier to push that game later
– No divisional games in Weeks 3 and 4
If the NFL needed to go to a 14-game schedule, they could push the start of the season back a month by dropping Weeks 3 and 4 and pushing the first two weeks back to the end of the schedule.
The Super Bowl could be pushed back and the Pro Bowl could be dropped if needed. There are contingencies in place for the NFL, but the league is hoping they will not have to resort to them.
