Those who drafted Latavius Murray in their fantasy football leagues have to be pleased with what they’re hearing from the Raiders.
Oakland head coach Jack Del Rio said this week that he wants to run the ball more and for Murray to have perhaps an even greater role this season.
“I want to have more rushes,” Del Rio said via the SF Chronicle. “I don’t want him to have less. If anything, maybe a little more, but I want him to be more productive. We’re working on becoming a team that’s capable of running the ball well. We never really, truly established that last year.”
Murray rushed 266 times last season for 1,066 yards and six touchdowns. He’s looking to become the first Raiders back since Marcus Allen in ’84 and ’85 to rush for 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons.
At 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, Murray certainly seems like he is big enough to carry a great load. He will have to split carries this season with DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard among others, but he should see plenty of action. We at least know that Del Rio wants to focus on the run.
