Earl Thomas is unhappy with his situation in Seattle, and he is seemingly trying to force the Seahawks into trading him by not showing up to practice to limit the risk of suffering an injury. However, a trade is unlikely unless the team lowers its asking price.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Seahawks “refuse to budge” from their demands in any potential Thomas trade, which at this point are a second-round draft pick. The Cowboys reportedly offered a second-round pick prior to the start of the regular season, but Seattle wanted more with the teams scheduled to play each other in Week 3. With that game now in the books, there’s still a chance talks could be revisited.
One team that has been linked to Thomas is the Kansas City Chiefs, and Schefter notes that executives around the NFL feel they are the favorite to land the All-Pro safety. Kansas City has an extra second-round pick that they acquired when they sent defensive back Marcus Peters to the Los Angeles Rams during the offseason.
It seems like the Cowboys are still interested in Thomas, and they may have even committed a tampering violation after their Week 3 game in Seattle. Perhaps the Seahawks would prefer to trade Thomas to an AFC team, which would give the Chiefs a leg up on Dallas.
