Watch: Carson Wentz makes most impressive first down of season
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz converted what may have been the most impressive first down of his career on Sunday, but you will probably be surprised to see how it went down.
Early in the first half of his team’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, Wentz was facing 3rd-and-3 and had a ball batted at the line of scrimmage. Fortunately, it was batted right back to him. Not only that, but Wentz had a clear lane to run for the first down.
As the NFL explained via its officiating account, the play was perfectly legal:
“In #PHIvsJAX, @Eagles QB Carson Wentz’s pass is deflected by the defender and then caught by the passer. This is a legal reception by the quarterback, who is able to advance the ball.” –AL pic.twitter.com/cZpIXoXzVB

That’s one way to move the chains.
Wentz spent the offseason recovering from ACL surgery and missed the start of the year because of it, but plays like that are a welcome sight for Eagles fans. He’s clearly moving around just fine.
