Blue Jackets fans throw trash on ice in protest of Charlie McAvoy penalty
Columbus Blue Jackets fans began throwing trash onto the ice during Game 6 of the second-round Eastern Conference playoff series against the Boston Bruins in protest of a controversial penalty call.
Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy somehow only was called for a 2-minute minor despite hitting Josh Anderson in the head with this check at the end of the second period:

McAvoy clearly got Anderson in the head, leading many to think he would be ejected. The decision to give him just a minor penalty instead of a major was shocking, and Blue Jackets fans did not like it. They threw trash on the ice and were even booing at the end of the period over the call.
Nationwide Arena, as you can expect, was not thrilled that McAvoy was only handed a minor. pic.twitter.com/EwjOdEUlqI

The check will likely receive a second look from the league’s Department of Player Safety.
Boston held a 1-0 lead through two periods as they looked to end the series.
