NHL explains why Kyle Turris was not offsides on winning goal
Kyle Turris gave the Ottawa Senators a huge victory with a game-winning goal in overtime to lift his team over the New York Rangers 5-4 in Game 5 of their second-round playoff series on Saturday.
Many Rangers fans were understandably frustrated about the goal being scored. Moreover, some complained that Turris was offsides for the play.
Here’s a look at the goal, which shows Turris received the puck just before crossing the blue line:
NHL Hockey Operations confirmed that Turris had possession and control of the puck prior to crossing the blue line, which means he was not offsides.
