Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the French Open due to a right knee injury, and we have some details about his injury.

Djokovic has a medial meniscus tear in his right knee.

“I am really sad to announce that I have to withdraw from Roland Garros. I played with my heart and gave my all in yesterday’s match and unfortunately, due to a medial meniscus tear in my right knee, my team and I had to make a tough decision after careful consideration and consultation,” Djokovic wrote on social media. “I wish the best of luck to the players competing this week and sincerely thank the incredible fans for all of the love and continued support.

“See you soon.

“With love and gratitude, Nole.”

Djokovic said that he entered the French Open with some knee discomfort. However, it wasn’t until his 4th-round match on Monday that he really got hurt. Djokovic said he hurt his knee after slipping during the third game of the second set of his match against Francisco Cerundolo.

Djokovic had asked for the court to be swept multiple times as he slipped due to the slick surface.

Djokovic beat Cerundolo in five sets to win the match and advance to the quarterfinals, but his withdrawal gives Casper Ruud a walkover into the semifinals.

The 37-year-old Serbian star was seeking to win the French Open for a fourth time.

Djokovic’s statement makes it clear that he intends to keep playing. It’s unclear whether he plans to undergo surgery to repair the tear in his knee.
