Joakim Noah admonished for shooting three-pointer to try to win fans Big Macs

Joakim Noah is one of those players that Chicago Bulls fans love to have on their side. He always hustles, plays with intensity and you never have to question his effort. He’s also not afraid to attempt the impossible if it means Bulls fans might enjoy a Big Mac because of it.

The Bulls are running a promotion this season through which fans can win a free Big Mac from McDonald’s if Chicago scores over 100 points in a home game. With 3.8 seconds remaining in their win over the Magic Tuesday night, the Bulls had only 99 points. Noah tried to put his team over 100 and deliver Big Macs to the fans by attempting the fifth three-pointer of his career. He missed, and Chicago coach Tom Thibodeau was not pleased.

“I talked to him about it, but I’m going to keep that private,” Thibodeau said according to ESPNChicago.com.

The first thought that came to my mind was why couldn’t he have driven it in closer with 3.8 seconds remaining or dished it to someone else, but Noah was obviously trying to be the Micky D’s hero. In the future, he should probably just let the fan promotions play themselves out.

“You have to respect the game because you never know what can happen in a game,” Noah said. “I just got caught up in the moment and I was trying to get the people a Big Mac. They really wanted a Big Mac (judging by how loud the crowd was getting) and I felt like, not only did I take the shot and miss the shot, we didn’t even get the Big Mac. Next time, I won’t take that 3-pointer.”

Chicago fans were actually booing as the final buzzer sounded despite their team’s 99-93 victory, so perhaps the Big Mac thing wasn’t the most brilliant idea. Haven’t we learned anything about McDonald’s from stories like this one? The fans should be thanking the Bulls. They did them a favor by allowing them to avoid temptation.
