Browns Jets pass interference

The officials during Thursday night’s Cleveland Browns-New York Jets game missed a pass interference call in the end zone that hurt the Browns.

Cleveland had a 3rd-and-6 at the Jets 48 in the first quarter and attempted a deep pass to the end zone. Antonio Callaway was unable to get his hands on the pass from Tyrod Taylor because Jets safety Doug Middleton collided with him.

That was clear pass interference and should have resulted in a first-and-goal at the one. Instead, no penalty was called and the Browns ended up punting.

Many people on Twitter called out the refs for missing the call.

Throw the flag.
That is pass interference.

#Jets got lucky there. Doug Middleton with the clear pass interference in the end zone on Callaway. No flag. #Browns punt.

Oh my Browns. How is that not a penalty?

— ProFootballTalk (@ProFootballTalk) September 21, 2018

Breaking: NFL officials still don't know what is pass interference. That was blatant and cost Browns 1st and goal at 1.

— Jay Posner (@sdutPosner) September 21, 2018

I don't think it's a good thing for the NFL that a potentially 50-yard penalty is one of the most inconsistently called fouls in the sport.

— Michael David Smith (@MichaelDavSmith) September 21, 2018

FanDuel better pay out to the refs who clearly have Jets big.

— Jimmy Traina (@JimmyTraina) September 21, 2018

The Browns sure could have used the penalty, because at that point in the game Taylor was struggling to complete passes.
