Donald Trump Will Not Own the Mets

From their play on the field, to the questionable behavior of their fans, and the problems within the stadium, the New York Mets have long been a favorite target here at LBS. Matters weren’t helped much when it was announced two weeks ago that the Mets were looking for minority owners in an effort to fund raise. The team’s owners — the Wilpon family — is being sued by the victims of Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme, and they could be forced to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in damages.

Enter The Donald.

The New York Times reported on Tuesday that Donald Trump has interest in owning the Mets, and that he was trying to set up a meeting with Fred Wilpon to discuss the possibilities. While the nugget of info certainly is juicy, it’s nothing more than a fun story the Times knew would be attractive for fans and the media.

In the third paragraph of their story it states that Trump “made it clear that he would be interested only in buying a majority stake in the team.”

THE DONALD GIVES MIAMI FOOTBALL COACHING ADVICE

Donald Trump as the new owner of the Mets? I’m sure we can all envision how that one would go first day on the job “Terry Collins, you’re fired!” but sadly that’s not going to happen. There’s no way the Wilpons are giving up a majority stake in the club, and there’s no way The Donald will take anything less. Have you ever known Trump to be anything less than “the man”? Does The Donald take a backseat to anyone? Of course not. That’s why this will never happen, regardless of how endless the fun could be. Sadly, we’ll just have to settle for the Steinbrenners and McCourts to provide us with owner fodder.
