If Joe Torre had any balls, he would have moved Derek Jeter to second when the Yankees acquired A-Rod. A-Rod, for all of his batting failures in the clutch, was an infinitely superior fielding shortstop to Jeter by any objective means of measurement. Jeter is supposedly the consummate team player and should have made the move graciously like Michael Young will this year in Texas.

However, I suspect that Jeter has his own ego problems and declined to make such a move. No wonder that A-Rod is somewhat obsessed with him. He walks on water and can do no wrong.

Finally, Joe Torre, with by far the largest payroll to work with, hasn't delivered a World Series Championship since 2000. Gee, I wonder why Cashman wouldn't go out of his way to give Joe a ringing endorsement.
