Gerald Green hospitalized after reportedly acting erratically

Miami Heat guard Gerald Green was hospitalized on Wednesday morning for undisclosed reasons. The 29-year-old’s admittance was confirmed by the team on Twitter in an official statement.

Green, who signed a one-year deal with the team for the veteran’s minimum over the summer, missed Tuesday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks with what was only described as an “illness.”

TMZ Sports shared some alarming potential details about the circumstances regarding Green’s hospitalization, reporting late Wednesday morning that Green was behaving erratically at the condo where he was staying, screaming and needing to be restrained on a stretcher:

Multiple witnesses at the condo tell us Green was acting strange in the lobby of the condo … screaming at the top of his lungs.

We’re told from several people that there was a huge commotion and it took several people — including emergency personnel — to restrain Green and get him on a stretcher and into an ambulance.

One source tells us … one of Green’s teammates was at the scene and tried to help … eventually getting in the ambulance with Green.

Heat beat writer Ira Winderman of the Sun-Sentinel confirmed that Miami Police were called for “assistance” to Green’s condo on Biscayne Blvd. in Miami at 11 a.m, with the aforementioned teammate in question being fellow guard Mario Chalmers, who lives nearby.

Furthermore, despite Internet rumors circulating that Green and/or Chalmers may have been arrested, Winderman quoted Miami Police Detective Frederica Burden as saying that was not the case.

“No Miami Heat players have been arrested, and there are no active City of Miami Police investigations into any Heat players at all,” said Burden.

Green has averaged 10.3 points per game in his first three contests with the Heat, who are expecting him to be an important bench contributor as they look to make their way back to the Eastern Conference Playoffs this season.

The supposed details surrounding his hospitalization are obviously incredibly concerning, and hopefully the talented former Slam Dunk Contest champion isn’t dealing with something more serious here.
