Yankees fans hilariously booed the wrong person during Game 1 against the Red Sox
The New York Yankees were close to perfect in Game 1 of their American League Wild Card Series against the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, but their fans might have committed the biggest blunder of the evening at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, N.Y.
With Yankees starter Cam Schlittler nearing the 100-pitch mark in the top of the sixth inning of an otherwise incredible performance, Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake took the mound to talk to the right-hander.
However, fans initially thought it was New York manager Aaron Boone taking the ball from Schlittler and ending the ace’s night. Loud boos reverberated inside the stadium, but they soon turned into cheers when it became clear that it was just Blake talking to Schlittler, who stayed in the game.

Schlittler would pitch until the seventh inning, when he was replaced by Paul Blackburn after giving up a single to Wilyer Abreu with one out
The 25-year-old Schlittler was nearly unhittable in his start, giving up zero runs and only two hits while striking out 10 Red Sox hitters over 117 pitches. Blackburn and John Schreiber made sure Schlittler’s big night wouldn’t be wasted, as the relievers mopped it up the rest of the way to help New York eke out a 9-0 win and take a 1-0 series lead over Boston.
The Yankees can send Boston to vacation as soon as Wednesday, when they give the ball to Max Fried.
Caitlin Clark makes historically absurd WNBA history in Fever’s win against the Aces
Caitlin Clark wasn’t going to let the Indiana Fever’s season end in a sweep, and she made sure of that with a historic performance.
Facing elimination in front of the Fever’s home crowd at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind., Clark put together a huge stat line of 27 points on 9-of-18 shooting, 15 assists and seven rebounds in 33 minutes of action to lead Indiana to a 99-89 Game 2 win over the Las Vegas Aces.
According to StatMuse, Clark is the first player in WNBA history to score at least 20 points and dish out 15 dimes in a playoff game.

Indiana needed a game like that from the former Iowa Hawkeyes star to keep its season alive. The Aces won Game 1 on Sunday, 102-85, with Clark making 10 points and posting 10 assists.
A first-round sweep, even at the hands of the reigning WNBA champion Las Vegas, wouldn’t look great on the 24-year-old Clark’s resume and would just give her critics more ammunition, but she no longer have to worry about it now.
Through two games in the series, the former No. 1 overall pick is averaging 21.0 points and 12.5 assists, while shooting 38.1% from behind the arc.
Clark and the Fever can complete a series upset and dethrone the Aces in Thursday’s Game 3 at Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.
Jaylen Brown shuts down a loaded question about the 76ers
Jaylen Brown had no desire to get baited by a loaded question during the Philadelphia 76ers’ Media Day on Monday.
When asked by a reporter if the 76ers already know who the team’s “alpha” is, Brown declined to answer.
“Next question,” the five-time NBA All-Star bluntly responded.

Brown is entering just his first season with the 76ers and will play alongside some of the biggest names in the game, including none other than future Basketball Hall of Famer and fellow Philadelphia newcomer LeBron James and former NBA Most Valuable Player Joel Embiid. That is not to mention Tyrese Maxey and the rising VJ Edgecombe.
Even though he didn’t address the question, the intrigue remains high about how Brown and the other stars will coexist.
James, Embiid, Maxey and Brown are all ball-dominant players, so it will be quite a challenge for head coach Nick Nurse to find just the right balance to maximize the potential of the star-laden squad.
The 76ers, who were swept by the New York Knicks in the second round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs, acquired Brown in July via a trade with the Boston Celtics in exchange for a package centered around Paul George.
Last season, Brown averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists in 71 games for the Celtics.
Fans rip Red Sox manager Chad Tracy after his Game 1 decision backfires
Chad Tracy is not a popular man in Boston right now.
The Boston Red Sox opened up their best-of-three AL Wild Card series against the hated rival New York Yankees on Tuesday. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in New York, N.Y.
Red Sox phenom Payton Tolle got the start and held his own, going 4.2 innings and with four strikeouts and just one earned run. But with nobody on base in the fifth inning, the Boston manager Tracy curiously decided to pull Tolle from the game and have reliever Erik Miller pitch to Yankees designated hitter Ben Rice instead.
The move immediately backfired as Miller missed his spot on a 1-1 pitch, firing a meatball down the middle that Rice promptly deposited over the fence. That gave New York a 2-0 lead with ace pitcher Cam Schlittler still dealing on the other side of the ball as well.

Fans quickly skewered Tracy for the move. Many believed that it was a classic case of overmanagement.

Tolle was at a modest 83 pitches when Tracy pulled him, and he had actually struck out Rice during Rice’s previous at-bat (though Rice did hit a double off Tolle in the first inning). Playing matchups there also made little sense when considering that Tolle and Miller are both lefties.
Tracy, 41, did earn some goodwill in Boston after taking over as interim manager in late April following Alex Cora’s firing and going 77-58 to lead the Red Sox to a surprise playoff berth. He was also rewarded by the team with the permanent manager job earlier this month as part of a new multi-year deal.
But Tracy ultimately looked to have failed the test on Tuesday in his first-ever playoff game as a manager. This is not the first time either that Tracy has cost the Red Sox with his in-game management.
A’ja Wilson confronts an Indiana Fever fan during playoff game
A’ja Wilson became the latest WNBA player to have an incident with an Indiana Fever fan.
Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces played on Tuesday in Game 2 of their best-of-three first-round playoff series against the Fever. The contest took place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind.
During the fourth quarter of the game, the Aces star Wilson walked over to confront a fan amid a stoppage in play. The fan was sitting behind the basket, and Wilson had to be held back by her teammates and coaches as she was angrily chastising the fan.
Wilson was ultimately given a technical foul for the incident, and the fan in question also ended up getting ejected from their seat. Here is the video of the episode.

The 30-year-old Wilson is a four-time WNBA MVP who is widely regarded as the greatest player of her generation. But on Tuesday, it was the Fever who got the 99-89 victory over the Aces to even their series at one game apiece.
Meanwhile, Wilson is not even the first player on her own team to have a heated incident with a Fever fan. Just last month, Aces All-Star guard Jackie Young also had a fan ejected from a courtside seat during a regular season game in Indiana.
Jalen Ramsey is trying to play through a crazy injury
Jalen Ramsey is apparently trying to test the limitations of the human body.
The Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ramsey revealed to reporters on Tuesday that he suffered a broken wrist in Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Even wilder though is that Ramsey said he will be trying to play through the injury.
“I’m going to give everything to try to [play],” said Ramsey, per Nick Farabaugh of The Patriot-News. “I have to be able to protect it. It’s a real injury, a broken wrist. I can’t really do anything about it.
“It’s just going to be about seeing if I’m able to protect it and also still be myself in a good enough capacity where I feel like if I go out there, I won’t be letting any of my teammates down,” Ramsey added.
The eight-time Pro Bowler Ramsey, now 31 years old, is in his second season with the Steelers. Notably, Ramsey was able to practice in a limited capacity on Tuesday but was spotted wearing a cast on his injured wrist.
With Ramsey on the defensive side of the ball, a broken wrist becomes slightly more possible to play through. But it will still obviously compromise Ramsey’s overall effectiveness, especially when it comes to being physical and making plays on the ball.
The Steelers are off to a 2-1 start to the season after defeating the Bengals by a final score of 30-27 in Week 3. But the injury blow to Ramsey, regardless of whether or not he fights through it, will certainly hurt given the sheer number of roles that he has been able to fill for the team.
Knicks’ desired pay cut for Karl-Anthony Towns has been revealed
The New York Knicks are hoping that Karl-Anthony Towns is willing to leave around $75 million on the table.
New York would be “far more” interested in giving Towns a new contract of four years and $200 million, Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer reported on Tuesday. That is notably much less than Towns’ full max figure of four years and $276 million.
Towns, who turns 31 in November, is currently in a contract standoff with the Knicks. We learned earlier this week that New York has been asking Towns to take a pay cut and that Towns was now seen as unlikely to agree to a new extension before the season as a result.
The former No. 1 overall pick Towns has been a stellar player for the Knicks ever since arriving in a 2024 trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Towns has been an All-Star and a 20-ppg scorer in each of his first two seasons with New York and also played a major role in the Knicks’ 2026 NBA championship victory.
But even at a figure of $50 million per year, Towns would still be taking a discount, relative to both his max number and his current contract. For reference, Towns is currently signed for $57.1 million next season and also has a $61 million player option for 2027-28.
The Knicks are trying to avoid the second apron of the luxury tax at all costs and also have to position themselves for No. 1 option Jalen Brunson’s expected mammoth extension next summer. As a result, Towns is being asked to take a haircut, which may only be adding to his reported frustrations with the team.
JR Smith’s mugshot is released after his arrest for assault
Former NBA champion JR Smith has been arrested this week.
Smith was arrested on Monday on a charge of assault causing bodily injury (family violence). TMZ Sports reports that Smith was booked into jail in Hunt County, Texas after being pulled over by law enforcement when an automatic license plate reader revealed that he had an active warrant out for his arrest.
TMZ also shared Smith’s mugshot. The blurry mugshot showed Smith wearing a dark top and looking stoic.

Smith, now 41 years old, played in the NBA from 16 total seasons from 2004-20. He averaged 12.4 points per game in the league overall and also won NBA Sixth Man of the Year with the New York Knicks in 2013.
On top of that, Smith has two NBA championship rings. He won in 2016 with the Cleveland Cavaliers and then again in 2020 with the Los Angeles Lakers (both times with LeBron James as his teammate).
But Smith, who never played again after that 2020 title win, also has a history of legal issues. Most notably, Smith served jail time back in 2007 after pleading guilty to a charge of reckless driving in connection with a car crash that killed one of his passengers.
JJ McCarthy’s new jersey number for the Giants has been revealed
JJ McCarthy is getting a fresh start in more ways than one.
The third-year quarterback McCarthy is set to wear a new jersey number with the New York Giants, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Tuesday. McCarthy will be switching from No. 9 to No. 18.
No. 9 is already in use with the Giants by tight end Isaiah Likely. As a result, McCarthy will be going for exactly two times the No. 9 jersey by wearing No. 18.
McCarthy, the 23-year-old signal caller, was traded to New York earlier this week after a forgettable tenure with the Vikings. Minnesota drafted McCarthy with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft but got just 10 total and mostly ineffective starts out of him, in large part due to meniscus and ankle injuries.
With Kyler Murray winning the starting QB job for the Vikings this season, the team decided to finally send McCarthy packing in exchange for some light draft-pick compensation. Now McCarthy is on a Giants team that just lost starting quarterback Jaxson Dart for the season and needed further depth behind new starter Jameis Winston.
McCarthy had worn the No. 9 jersey since at least his time in college at Michigan (where he won a national title in the 2023 NCAA season). But now McCarthy is switching to No. 18, which was last worn for the Giants by fellow quarterback Jake Haener (who has since been waived by the team amid McCarthy’s arrival).
NFL makes unusual ticket move ahead of Colts-Commanders game in London
Right now, fans aren’t too excited about the upcoming game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London between the Washington Commanders and the Indianapolis Colts.
The game is scheduled for October 4, but the NFL has decided to drastically lower ticket prices in hopes of bringing more fans to the stadium, according to Ken Maguire of AP.
“After charging up to 245 pounds ($325) for tickets to see the Indianapolis Colts face the Washington Commanders, the league reduced prices in a bid to sell out the north London stadium, following slow sales in comparison to past years,” Maguire wrote. “The league, facing the possibility of attendance at a Tottenham game slipping under 60,000 for the first time, recently slashed remaining tickets down to 79 pounds ($105).”
A similar issue occurred over the summer as fans didn’t exactly rush to buy tickets.
In 2025, there were two games at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium: One between the Denver Broncos and New York Jets, and the other between the Los Angeles Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars. Both of those games had an attendance of just over 61,000. The highest mark for an NFL game at that stadium was 61,273, which came in 2023.
The NFL has made an increased effort to host international games, and the Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys just played in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in Week 3. The Rams and 49ers also played the first-ever NFL game in Australia in Week 1. There are also games scheduled this season in Paris, Madrid and Munich.
However, as far as London goes, tickets aren’t exactly flying off the shelves, so there could be some changes coming soon.
Ken Rosenthal calls for major change to MLB playoffs bracket
As the 2026 MLB playoffs kicked off on Tuesday, insider Ken Rosenthal made it clear that he hopes for a change in the future.
Rosenthal wants the bracket to be re-seeded after the Wild Card round, as he mentioned during an episode of “Foul Territory” on Tuesday.
“The re-seeding after the Wild Card series…that’s something that honestly needs to happen. They [MLB] has to recognize that you have the three best AL teams on one side of the bracket,” Rosenthal said.

Rosenthal mentioned the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays all on one side of the bracket, with the Red Sox and Yankees facing off in the Wild Card series and the winner taking on the Rays in an AL East showdown.
In the National League, a potential NL West showdown between the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers wouldn’t happen until the NLCS, but the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies face each other in the Wild Card round, and both are in the NL East.

Chris Sale just did something he hadn’t done since Opening Day
The Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies kicked off the 2026 MLB postseason with Game 1 on Tuesday afternoon at Truist Park in Atlanta, Ga.
Chris Sale took the mound for Atlanta, but Philadelphia wasted no time as Alec Bohm had an RBI double in the top of the first inning.
Sale walked Kyle Schwarber before allowing the double, and it marked the first time since Opening Day that the Braves star allowed a hit on a fastball above the strike zone.

Sale has been dominant this year, and he finished the regular season with a 14-9 record and a 2.16 ERA. However, Sale has now allowed three extra-base hits this season to Bohm.
In Sale’s last start against the Phillies, he went seven innings, allowing three runs on three hits in the Braves’ 6-5 extra-innings win, although Bohm went hitless in that showdown.
Right before that, Sale struck out Bryce Harper on a 100 MPH pitch, marking his second-hardest pitch of the season.

Padres make surprising Joe Musgrove decision after 727-day absence
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Joe Musgrove last played in Game 2 of the Wild Card series in 2024.
Yet, the Padres included Musgrove on their 26-man roster ahead of this year’s Wild Card series against the Chicago Cubs.

Musgrove suffered an injury in Game 2 of the 2024 series against the Atlanta Braves, and he ended up missing the rest of the postseason and undergoing Tommy John surgery. Musgrove then missed all of 2025, and he suffered a setback prior to 2026 that sidelined him for the entire season.
Musgrove did have a rehab assignment recently with the Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas, so there was always a possibility he would return at some point this season.

Vikings make QB move after JJ McCarthy trade
The Minnesota Vikings had only two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster after they traded JJ McCarthy to the New York Giants on Monday.
On Tuesday, the Vikings fixed that by moving Max Brosmer from the practice squad to the active roster. That means Brosmer can dress as the emergency QB behind Kyler Murray and Carson Wentz.

Brosmer made 2 starts in 2025 as McCarthy dealt with an injury. However, the undrafted QB out of Minnesota threw four interceptions in the game against the Seattle Seahawks at the end of November.
It was Brosmer’s first career NFL start, though facing the Super Bowl champions certainly wasn’t easy.
Last season, Brosmer finished with 47 completions on 71 attempts with zero touchdowns and four interceptions while appearing in a total of seven games.
The Vikings have a 3-0 record, and Kyler Murray has been the QB1, although Carson Wentz has appeared in two games due to Murray suffering an injury in Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers.
The Vikings face the Miami Dolphins in Minnesota in Week 4.
Conflicting reports emerge on Deion Sanders’ starting QB for Colorado
Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes team has a 2-2 record against a massive showdown in Boulder against the No. 12 Texas Tech Red Raiders.
On Tuesday, it was revealed that Isaac Wilson will start at quarterback for Week 5 after he replaced Julian Lewis in the Week 4 loss to the Baylor Bears.

Odell Beckham Jr.’s reunion with the New York Giants didn’t last long, and it wasn’t a success, either.
On Tuesday, the Giants released Beckham after he played just three games in his return to the franchise that drafted him in 2014
Beckham had zero catches and just 1 target this season, and he played just six snaps in the Giants’ Week 3 win over the Tennessee Titans.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz said the decision was mutual, and it allows Beckham to find a team that could give him more playing time. Schultz also added that the Giants offense will likely focus on the running game more, especially after the season-ending injury to QB Jaxson Dart.

Right now, Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels might not need elbow surgery, but it seems he won’t be able to put it off for too long.
On Tuesday, ESPN insider Adam Schefter said Daniels will likely undergo surgery following the 2026 campaign.

Daniels suffered a gruesome elbow injury in Week 2, and it was later diagnosed as a dislocated elbow.
However, Commanders GM Adam Peters said before Week 3 that surgery wasn’t on the table, and Daniels even going on IR wasn’t something that was discussed, meaning the young QB should return sometime in the near future.
On the other hand, Schefter says Daniels will most likely need surgery at some point, and the insider said it seems most probable that he will undergo the surgery after the season comes to an end.
The Commanders have been using veteran Marcus Mariota in Daniels’ absence, although they are off to a 1-2 start and are hoping Daniels can return sooner rather than later.
Yankees make Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton decision for Wild Card series
The New York Yankees announced their roster for the Wild Card series against the Boston Red Sox.
Aaron Judge was not part of it, although Giancarlo Stanton was on the roster for the series that begins on Tuesday in the Bronx.

The Yankees are going with 10 pitchers for the series, and Ryan Weathers and Tim Hill were two pitchers who didn’t make the 26-man roster.
Judete was making his case to be on the roster after he suffered another injury on September 16, but the Yankees decided not to use him for this round.
Stanton is a bit of a surprise. He has been out since April 24 due to injuries, and he suffered a setback in August. However, he is on the roster, although Stanton was not listed in the starting lineup for Game 1.

Aaron Boone also said they plan to use Stanton in a pinch-hit role.

For Judge, the expectation was that he wouldn’t be available for the Wild Card series, although the reigning American League MVP certainly said he wanted to play.
The Yankees and Red Sox begin the series on Tuesday, with all three games taking place in the Bronx. If New York moves on, Judge should be available for the ALDS.
Fernando Mendoza finally joins Kirk Cousins in unique routine after a win
Kirk Cousins has apparently infected Fernando Mendoza with a case of postgame calories.
In a photo shared on X by Mick Akers of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, a smiling Cousins is seen on the same table at In-N-Out by Las Vegas Raiders teammates running back Dylan Laube, offensive lineman Caleb Rodgers and backup quarterback Mendoza. You can check out the photo here.
Cousins appears to have developed a love for In-N-Out burgers, especially after Raiders victories. The fast-food burger chain has become a go-to place for a postgame meal for the veteran signal-caller, and Mendoza and other Raiders players appear to be joining the ritual.
The photo was taken following Las Vegas’ 35-27 win over the New Orleans Saints last Sunday at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, La. It was the third consecutive win for the Raiders to start the 2026 season — and the Kirk Cousins era in Sin City.
Against the Saints, Cousins had a performance worthy of a big caloric payoff, passing for 248 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions on 22/33 completions. He got a big hand from tight end Brock Bowers, who made his season debut and immediately led Las Vegas with 116 receiving yards and a touchdown on 10 receptions and 13 targets.
Mendoza, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, has yet to make his regular-season debut, but he’ll eventually get his chance to run the offense on the field.

Damian Lillard had a telling remark on the Blazers potentially leaving Portland
Damian Lillard doesn’t want to see the day when the Trail Blazers are no longer in Portland.
While there is no imminent possibility of a Trail Blazers relocation, the NBA franchise and the City of Portland have yet to see eye to eye on where the funding should come from for the renovation of the Moda Center in Portland, Ore.
According to Jason Quick of The Athletic, the Blazers and the City of Portland must agree by December to receive $365 million in state bonds. Otherwise, the Trail Blazers’ chances of staying in Portland would get blurrier.
Lillard can’t seem to grasp the idea of the Blazers being in a different location.
“As much as I’m a Trail Blazer, I’m a Portland person. … I just don’t see that happening, the veteran point guard said during Monday’s Media Day.
“And hopefully that’s what it ends up being. I just don’t see a world where the Trail Blazers aren’t in Portland. I just don’t.”

There is still time to work on an agreement between the key parties that will ensure the Blazers will be in Portland for many more years to come. For now, hearing someone like Lillard voice his support for keeping the Blazers in Portland is comforting, at least, for the fans of the team.
The Blazers will open their 2026-27 NBA campaign on Oct. 21 against the Phoenix Suns at Moda Center.
