Braylon Edwards Arrested for DUI

Braylon Edwards was a huge part of the reason the Jets were able to dominate the Patriots in the second half on Sunday and finally back up all the crap they’ve been talking. After an abysmal performance against the Ravens last week — where he amassed more penalty yards than receiving yards — Edwards caught six passes for 54 yards, a touchdown, and a crucial two-point conversion.

Braylon decided to celebrate on the field by doing the Dougie Dance in Darius Butler’s face. He probably should have left it at that. Instead, it would appear the celebration continued into the work week as Braylon Edwards was arrested for a DUI early Tuesday morning. According to a New York Post report, he was arrested at 5:15 a.m. after he was pulled over in his Range Rover for having windows that were too tinted when police smelled alcohol. The Jets receiver blew a 0.16 on the Breathalyzer, double the state of New York’s legal limit.

Under the current CBA, a first alcohol-related suspense isn’t an automatic suspension.  However, I think a suspension from Commissioner Roger Goodell is likely at some point considering this isn’t the first time Edwards has been in legal trouble. We all remember the incident where he punched a club promoter that was supposedly LeBron James’ friend and pleaded no contest to aggravated assault charges.

If Edwards is indeed suspended, it may not be until later in the season or even next season if the legal process drags on.  This certainly isn’t a distraction the Jets needed in the days following their first big win of the season, however.
