Report: Browns looking to trade Brock Osweiler

Brock Osweiler

What a difference 48 hours can make.

Just two days ago, reports said Brock Osweiler could end up as the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback to open the regular season. Now on Wednesday, a new report said the team is looking to trade Osweiler.

The first piece of curious information surrounding Osweiler emerged early Wednesday when a report said the quarterback would not play at all in the team’s third preseason game. The third preseason game is considered a dress rehearsal, and it’s the one time during the preseason when starters play a decent amount of the game.

The team made it clear that DeShone Kizer is trending towards becoming the starter. The rookie will start the third preseason game.

So what is happening with Brock? Not playing him is a sign the Browns may be trying to keep the QB healthy in an effort to trade him. Accordingly, ESPN reports that the Browns have renewed their effort to trade Osweiler.

The report about Osweiler heading towards becoming Cleveland’s starter came out on Monday and was contingent upon Osweiler looking decent in the team’s second preseason game. Well Osweiler has quarterbacked five drives in the preseason, and the team has failed to score any points with him at QB. Contrarily, the team has scored 23 points in nine drives under Kizer, who was playing against backups.

Everyone knew when the Browns initially acquired Osweiler that they were not enthralled with him. If the Browns feel Kizer is ready to be the starter, it makes little sense to keep Brock around.
