Stews: “It’s obvious that some time during the course of the year, Lane Kiffin is probably going to be dismissed from his job. If that happens and your phone rings and the caller ID says ‘Al Davis,’ do you answer that phone call, Coach?”
Green: “No I do not.”
Nothing else needed to be said. The whole mess with Lane Kiffin pretty much embodies why the Raiders’ head coaching job is one of the least desirable gigs in all of sports. Who would want to deal with the whimsical Al Davis? Certainly it’s not Denny Green, who put any thoughts of that job to rest. And now for the obligatory post game press conference blowup video:

I had been an avid Raider fan since 1965. It all began to change when Al Davis dismissed Mike Shanahan as coach and has gotten worse as Davis’ mind and body have continued to deteriorate. Not only has the head coach of the Raiders been nothing more than a figurehead, but that once proud team has become the laughing stock of the NFL, both off the field and on.
I feel badly for Kiffin and hope he winds up like Mike Shanahan, a successful coach with another team. As for Davis, he has lost all of my respect and I hope he either sells out or is carried out, since he will never voluntarily retire or relinquish partial control.
i dont blame Dennis Green one bit for not wanting to be the coach of the raiders.
There’s no doubt this has become one of the least desirable jobs in all of sports … all because of Al Davis. Even Raider fans are waiting for the day (we all know about) to come.
