NBC apologizes for airing ill-timed commercial of monkey on the rings after Gabby Douglas’ win (Video)

NBC apologized for the timing of one of its commercials that featured a monkey on the Olympic rings. The commercial was promoting NBC’s upcoming sitcom “Animal Practice” and it aired immediately after Bob Costas discussed Gabby Douglas’ gold-medal winning effort in the women’s all-around gymnastics. You can see the awkward segue below:

The poorly-timed commercial received plenty of attention online, and NBC has apologized for it.

“Gabby Douglas’ gold medal performance last night was a historic and inspiring achievement,” NBC said in a statement to the Daily Mail on Friday.

“This spot promoting ‘Animal Practice,’ which has run three times previously, is one in a series with an Olympic theme which have been scheduled for maximum exposure. Certainly no offense was intended.”

It’s rather silly that NBC actually had to apologize for this. The commercial is for a show called ANIMAL PRACTICE and has been running throughout the Olympics. It’s a pure coincidence it aired at that moment and I don’t fault NBC at all. The network has made some mistakes for which they should be blamed, but this was not one of them.

    They can’t do anything right

Gabby must be a conservative. NBC/MSNBC have no issue hurling racial insults towards conservatives.

I sure nothing was meant by that running that ad.
It was an ad that was created for the olympics.  We all evolved from the apes anyway, so get over it.

Actually, I was wondering why it’s ok for blacks to call each other “monkeyass” and the N word,  yet if anyone one else dare make a reference, they are racists or insensitive.  I happened to watch a movie yesterday that was called NORBIT.
Eddie Murphy and a host of other black actors were in it.  This movie contained every black steryotype imaginable.. from weird names to big butts, rib sucking, and they were even calling the main woman character Rasputia a monkey.   I didn’t hear any  cries of anger or hurt feeling over this movie (except that it only got 2 stars as a review).  Actually, Eddie Murphy was one of the writers…

Blacks throw racist out there as it suits them, yet can use it amongst themselves as they please.

If any of you get a chance, rent the movie NORBIT and let me know what you think.

They took Amos and Andy off the market because they said it steryotyped blacks, yet it there’s money to be made in it for blacks, it’s OK to laugh and make fun of these characteristics.

Seems to me that one must be racist in order to see anything with this event..

NBC and ABC are the worst networks to have sports on. They will interrupt a show if it starts raining to hard. I think NBC is the one that interrupted the NBA championship to show O.J. Simpson drive 3 miles per hour down a highway.

Actually, Notbit was widely criticized by black people and otherwise for being stereotypical and poor. It’s release just before Oscar voting season cost Eddie Murphy the Oscar for Dreamgirls.

Bob costas is a well known racist. I’m sure it was planned to run that way.

did Costas also apologize for speaking for “little African-American girls all over America” as well?  i can’t stand that obsequious little elf.  why is he in sports…all he really does is bleeding heart human interest pap, and poorly.

Only a true racist would see racism here.

I got an idea. I got a few black friends that would love for you to excercise your ‘FoS’ and call them ‘n—–s’ to their faces!
    BTW, context, CONTEXT……………….
But I get it, it’s above your paygrade.
    I’m half-Irish, half-Italian……………
Call me a ‘half-breed, with derision, you got a problem.
A friend makes the same comment, with NO ill intent, NO PROBLEM!

Nsbc always has bad commercials, about medicines, and now dogs that are being beaten, or kids starving. I surf until there over, why cant they have Chevy commercials, or restaurant commercials, or vacation commercials, wont these people pay to be on NSBC?
