Doc Brown’s NFL Picks Against the Spread: Week 9

2-1 last week, 13-11 overall against the spread. Building up some decent respectability but there’s still plenty of work to be done. As I said last week, I always like taking advantage of bye weeks. Of course when we did that in week 8, the Jags lost at home to the Browns. Go figure. That’s also why I think the Browns are a good play this week even if they’re not one of Doc Brown’s picks. They’ve been playing well lately. But I think I’ve found better choices for Week 9. Without further ado, it’s Doc Brown’s Sports Almanac Picks for Week 8, presented by the online sportsbook betus.com.

Pick time.

Broncos -3.5 vs Dolphins – Give Shanahan a week to prepare and Cutler two weeks to recover from his hand injury and I think that spells trouble for Miami. The Dolphins sure could run on that porous Denver defense and will probably use the “Wildcat” formation to punch in a few touchdowns, so I’m expecting a shootout. I just expect that the Broncos with the extra week of rest to heal up will be on the winning end of things.

Bills -5.5
vs. Jets – The Jets may be 4-3, but they’ve been playing bad ball the last three weeks. They won’t be able to get away with a win against Buffalo playing sloppy the way they’ve been doing it. Favre is an interception machine and the Bills will make them pay. If not with pick-sixes, then definitely converting turnovers into points. I expect a one-sided affair.

Falcons -2.5 at Raiders – Atlanta already has a strong running game that can pound the Raiders. They also have a good passing game too in case they fall behind. Most importantly, they have that winning attitude and I trust Matt Ryan leading a team more than JaMarcus Russell. We already know he can make the key plays down the stretch.
