Report: A-Rod beat MLB drug testing by peeing in cup a certain way
Alex Rodriguez reportedly confessed to using performance-enhancing drugs in a meeting with the Drug Enforcement Agency and federal prosecutors back in January. Among the many revelations A-Rod made was one about beating the MLB’s drug testing system.
After coming clean with federal agents in exchange for immunity, A-Rod described how Bosch tested his blood frequently and gave him pre-filled syringes for hormone injections that Rodriguez took in his stomach. Rodriguez also admitted that Bosch told him a way to provide a urine sample that would beat MLB drug testing. A-Rod says it worked.
Rodriguez also described how Bosch gave the ballplayer “tips on how to beat MLB’s drug testing,” according to the DEA report.
The secret? According to Rodriguez, “Bosch advised him to only use mid-stream urine for MLB drug testing. Bosch told Rodriguez not to use the beginning or the end urine stream.”
It worked. A test he took while using the drugs came up negative.
If that’s all it takes for a urine sample to come up negative, it’s no wonder the MLB’s performance-enhancing drug problem got out of hand.
Bosch reportedly assured A-Rod on several occasions that he would protect his name, sending his blood to a laboratory for analysis under a fictitious alias. Rodriguez also confirmed that Bosch took a sample of his blood in a nightclub in Miami, which Bosch later revealed in a “60 Minutes” segment.
Surprised? Neither are we.
