Report: Blue Jays open to moving Drew Storen
Drew Storen’s tenure in Toronto may end up being a short one.
According to Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun, the Blue Jays have informed other teams that the reliever is available in a trade.
Storen moved to the Blue Jays in the offseason and hasn’t had the best go of it thus far. He’s given up 4 home runs in 15 innings with a 7.80 ERA, and his velocity is down significantly from his career norms. That makes it a bit strange that the Jays are looking to move him. He’s a free agent after the season, but his value is at an all-time low right now because of his performance.
Remember, it was only last year that Storen was regarded as a quality closer. He hasn’t quite been the same since the Nationals booted him out of the closer role to acquire Jonathan Papelbon. Still, with his track record and relative youth – he’s still just 28 – teams will definitely be interested.
