Matt Wieters likely to miss most of season after hamstring surgery
The Washington Nationals announced on Thursday that Matt Wieters has undergone hamstring surgery, and it sounds like the catcher could miss an extended period of time.
As Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports notes, hamstring injuries typically only require surgery if they are significant. While the Nationals have not yet given a timeline for Wieters’ recovery, it is not out of the question that we won’t see him again in 2018.
From the Nationals: “Matt Wieters underwent surgery on Wednesday to repair his left hamstring. We will provide more information when Matt returns to Washington, D.C. and is evaluated by our medical staff.”

#Nats haven't offered up any timeline for Wieters' recovery yet, but rehab from hamstring surgery (typically only done for a significant tear) isn't quick. Maybe he returns this season, but if he does it would be late in the season.

Wieters is in his second season with the Nationals. He is once again struggling at the plate, having hit .231 with three homers and seven RBI in 23 games.
