Pete Rose has no problem playing up his reputation.
Rose starred in an ad set to air in the Las Vegas television market during the Super Bowl. The ad, naturally, is for a sports betting app.
Former Las Vegas mayor Oscar Goodman also features in the commercial, but it’s Rose who steals the show despite not appearing until the very end.
“You’re sure this won’t get me in any trouble,” Rose demands to know after being told of the app’s merits, before the voiceover gleefully proclaims “It’s okay to bet on baseball!”
Rose was denied reinstatement by commissioner Rob Manfred in 2015 and even admitted that he still bets on the sport. As long as he keeps doing things like this, his situation will probably stay the same. Perhaps Pete is finally realizing that he’s never getting anywhere near the Hall of Fame and is just going to play this up as long as he can. More power to him, I suppose. In the meantime, maybe he can pop in on camera from time to time.
