The Colorado Rockies are close to finding a replacement for DJ LeMahieu at second base.
The Rockies and free agent Daniel Murphy are close to reaching a deal, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.
Murphy, who will turn 34 at the start of the season, is a three-time All-Star. He was acquired by the Chicago Cubs last season and batted .299 with a .790 OPS in 91 games combined between his time with Washington and Chicago.
Murphy finished second in the MVP race in 2016 after leading the league with 47 doubles, a .595 slugging percentage and .985 OPS. He batted .347 with 25 homers that season. The following year, Murphy batted .322 with 23 homers, a league-leading 43 doubles, and a .928 OPS.
Rosenthal says Murphy could also play some first base for the Rockies.
