New York Yankees reliever Jimmy Cordero’s season is over after MLB handed down an abrupt suspension on Wednesday.
The league announced that Cordero has been suspended for the rest of the season and the postseason under the league’s domestic violence policy. Cordero accepted the suspension, and no further details were made available.

There was no suggestion that Cordero was being investigated for anything, so this certainly comes out of the blue to the public. The 31-year-old unexpectedly made the team out of spring training and has been solid in a relief role for them, posting a 3.86 ERA in 32.2 innings.
Cordero becomes the third Yankee pitcher to be suspended under the domestic violence policy in the last seven years. Aroldis Chapman got a 30-game suspension in 2016, while Domingo German missed the 2020 season after an investigation into domestic violence allegations against him.
