Derrick Rose says he wants to retire a Bull

Derrick Rose

There have been plenty of supposed issues involving Derrick Rose and the Bulls, but the point guard says he wants to retire with Chicago.

Rose recently told ESPN’s Nick Friedell that he doesn’t want to leave the Bulls.

Friedell: You told me a long time ago you never wanted to play anywhere else. Is that still true?

Rose: That’s still true. Still true. Just having my son [P.J.], I’m doing all this because of my son now, you know? Just wanting to be around him every day, having him come up here, shoot with me or see me shooting til he’s able to become a ball boy. Little things like that I think about long term. Just trying to get him groomed, trying to get him used to being in the environment.

Friedell: You want to retire here still.

Rose: For sure, for sure.

Rose is a free agent in 2017, and it’s been presumed that he’s going to want a big payday that the Bulls may not be willing to give him. He has been inefficient for Chicago this season, shooting under 40 percent and averaging under 15 points per game. He’s prone to injury and he’s been forced to deny frequent reports of tension with Jimmy Butler, who has evolved into Chicago’s main man. The fact is, if Rose wants to stay in Chicago, he may have to accept a significant discount.
