Report: Knicks, Nets will be ‘all over’ Mike Conley in free agency
Mike Conley will reportedly be a top target for the Knicks and Nets when he hits free agency during the offseason.
According to Marc Berman and Fred Kerber of the New York Post, the Knicks and Nets will be “all over” the Grizzlies point guard when his contract expires after the season.
Conley would be the top point guard on the market, and the Knicks and Nets both have significant needs at the position. The Knicks, in particular, would be a fit, and coach Derek Fisher spoke highly of Conley before the teams play Saturday, a game Conley will miss with an Achilles strain.
Many NBA teams already have high-quality point guards. The Knicks have 34-year-old Jose Calderon. In the end, though, it’s still unlikely that Conley departs Memphis. The Grizzlies can offer him an extra year and a higher salary than New York or Brooklyn, and while the Knicks are an interesting long-term proposition, the Nets have major, major personnel issues that won’t be rectified anytime soon.
