Marcus Morris: Knicks front office right to be upset about bad start

Marcus Morris

The New York Knicks had a disappointing offseason that saw them miss out on all of the marquee free agents, but they still expected to be better this year than their 17-win team was a year ago. That is hardly a guarantee after their 2-8 start, and president Steve Mills and general manager Scott Perry are not happy about it.

Marcus Morris doesn’t blame them.

Following the Knicks’ 108-87 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday, Mills told the media he is “not happy with where we are” 10 games into the season. Perry questioned the team’s effort.

“I think the lack of consistency, that for the most part we’ve seen it, but you see sporadic efforts, too,” Perry said, per ESPN. “That’s what we talked about as we sat during this game and one of the reasons we wanted to come out and address you guys. Because we got to be consistent in all areas of the game, starting with the effort.”

Morris, who was one of New York’s biggest offseason acquisitions, told reporters Mills and Perry are “f—ing right.”

While no one expected the Knicks to make a playoff push after they missed out on Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and other superstar free agents, they still spent on guys like Morris and Julius Randle. The additions should have been enough for them to not look like one of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference.

Morris ended up with the Knicks in a way that clearly still bothers San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, and you have to wonder if he will regret his decision. These Knicks look like the same old Knicks 10 games into the season.
